Packing Supplies

Boxes
All Point Richmond Self Storage boxes have double-walled construction and are shipper approved. Ask the facility manager which storage boxes are best for the items you are packing. We also offer standard-sized boxes and specialty boxes for items such as TVs, VCRs, and pictures.

Locks
Point Richmond Self Storage offers disc locks and traditional pad locks. Disc locks are case-hardened, making them strike and pick proof.

Bubble Wrap
When moving and storing fragile items, cushioning should be a primary concern. Point Richmond Self Storage sells many different types of cushioning products, such as bubble wrap, packing paper and foam peanuts.

Tape
Our mini storage manager can help you estimate how much tape you need for the number of boxes you'll be packing. For your convenience we also have tape that is pre-labeled.

Point Richmond Self Storage Packing Tips

TIP #1 – DEVELOP A STORAGE PLAN
Developing a storage plan can make packing and moving a breeze. Planning ahead of time can save you time and unwanted stress on moving day.

TIP #2 – CREATE MOVING AND STORAGE CHECKLIST
Creating a moving and storage checklist will help you keep track of what you retain or discard. Moving day can be a little overwhelming, so we recommend that you keep a record of which items are moving and which items will be stored.

TIP #3 – GET HELP
Depending on what you are packing and moving, consider getting help from friends, family or professional movers.

TIP #4 – PREPARE MOVING SUPPLIES
When packing for storage or a move, it is essential to have the necessary moving supplies. Preparation with the right supplies can dramatically expedite the packing and moving.

TIP #5 – PACK ONE ROOM AT A TIME
Assign rooms you want pack first, preferably start with one room (small) then move on to the larger rooms.

TIP #6 – DON’T OVERLOAD BOXES
Don’t overload boxes with too many items (keep them “lift-friendly”).

TIP #7 – LABEL EACH BOX
Before sealing up your moving box, label each so you will know the contents when unpacking and sorting.

TIP #8 - ALWAYS USE PROTECTIVE MOVING GEAR
When moving your boxes or furniture, it is wise to wear back braces for back protection and gloves for hand protection.

TIP #9 – THROW AWAY UNWANTED ITEMS
Make sure to discard all unwanted items.  Break-down all excess cardboard boxes and prepare any trash or discarded items for local bulk pick-up.

TIP #10 - SELECTING THE RIGHT SIZE BOX!
Limit your storage box selection to two or three well constructed sizes that can be closed, sealed and stacked. Large boxes should be double ply constructed.

TIP #11 – MAKE PACKING, MOVING AND STORAGE FUN!
Packing, moving and storing doesn’t have to be a hassle.  With strategic planning, proper help and some good music, packing, moving and storing can be fun.
